Al Receives Honorary Membership In Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. – Feb. 2010

Al received Honorary Membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. on Friday, February 26th, 2010 in Beverly Hills, CA. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., January 9, 1914 by three young African-American male students that wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service.

Al joins an elite list of honorary members. This list includes among others: Alain LeRoy Locke, Ph.D. (first African American Rhodes Scholar), Asa Philip Randolph (renowned Civil Rights Leader), Blair Underwood (actor and author), David Ruffin & Eddie Kendricks (The Temptations), Ellis Marsalis (renowned jazz pianist and composer), Emmitt Smith (NFL running back), George Washington Carver (renowned scientist, botanist, educator and inventor), Harold Washington (first African American Mayor of Chicago), Lou Brock (MLB Hall of Famer), Nelson Mandela, Wayne Shorter (renowned saxophonist) and Willis Reed (NBA Hall of Famer).
